About Coach Gross
Coach James “J.C.” Gross started his running career as a child on his father’s North Park Track Club team with St. Patrick's and never looked back. His talent and passion carried him through to St. Augustine’s Track and Cross-Country teams, where he was the previous school record holder in the 400m and multiple relays. He graduated in 1995 and went on to attend Fresno State University, majoring in Kinesiology and competing in both Track and Cross County. It was here that he caught the coaching bug as he coached track at Kastner Middle School. He eventually returned to San Diego with his family and founded City Boltz Track Club, a community club for youth that included his children, niece, and nephews. He came full circle when he started coaching at Saints in 2003, working with the legendary Coach Jerry Downey.
We will always remember his commitment to developing and inspiring athletes to be the best version of themselves. His love of the Saints community lives on through his sons, Jalen Gross, Class of 2020, Justice Gross, Class of 2021, and his loving wife Janet. May his love of running live on through each of you for generations to come.
